Summer Vibe = Summer Goth

September 11, 2020

My summer mood? Wake me up when it’s October. Luckily fall is right around corner! I haven’t been feeling summer at all…normally I find a way to tolerate and embrace it but this year I couldn’t bring myself to even do that. Style update: I’ve pretty much been living in my favorite color (black) since the start of quarantine and I’m not mad about it. Black has always been my go-to color for an effortlessly chic look. Ok, call my summer vibe “summer goth” if you’d like….my nails are currently painted black.

At the start of quarantine I was looking for a rare dress, I’ll get in to that in a later post, but in my search I discovered an amazing little vintage shop based out of Massachusetts called Domino Vintage. Although the shop owner, Belinda, didn’t have the exact dress I was looking for – she showed me a dress equally as beautiful and I had to have it. The corset style lace bodice and full satin skirt with rosette pickups gave off a Southern Gothic aesthetic I couldn’t resist.

One thing I’ve learned about vintage, especially pieces I love, is that “if the dress fits, buy it.” With vintage, there’s no asking, “does this come in my size?” it either fits you or it doesn’t. When it comes to adding special pieces to my vintage collection and planning a photo shoot with them, the dresses always inspire the shoot. It might sound crazy but I really like to give my vintage pieces their time to shine and this particular shoot, with local photographer Michaela Higgins, was no exception. I really wanted to capture the Southern Gothic charm of the dress through accessories, location, etc. and I think we were really able to do that!

Baby, You Can Drive My Car!

March 15, 2020

You may not know this about me, but I love classic cars and owning one is on my bucket list! A few weeks ago I spent the morning at Memory Lane Motors with this 1960 Ford Galaxy and I was in heaven!! This car and I had a brief love affair and luckily it was all captured on camera ( in a fabulous outfit of course) 😂.

If this leopard cape and muff look familiar, that’s because they’re recreations of an outfit Marilyn Monroe wore in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes! Although some may say it isn’t one of her most well known looks from the 1953 film, it’s one of my absolute favorites! If you’re a fan of Old Hollywood and Marilyn, you have to check out Iconic Dresses . I’ve been obsessed with fashion in film for as long as I can remember, so being able to own a replica of one of my favorite on screen outfits is a dream come true! I’m honestly so grateful to the shop owner for keeping the memory of these cinematic treasures alive!

Keep calm and practice social distancing, everyone!

Thank you to Michaela Photography and Memory Lane Motors for making my Old Hollywood dreams a reality!

Ready For Spring!

February 25, 2020

A couple weekends ago Shauna (aka Little Photo Fox) and I set out to shoot content on perhaps the coldest wettest day of the year so far! We didn’t get through most of the looks I had planned to shoot because the weather was so cold and miserable…On the plus side, we were able to shoot this pink suit from Zara (before it really started raining) and we found some AMAZING locations for future shoots that I’m already planning looks around!

P.S. I’m sorry I’ve been quiet on the blog for the last month! February completely got away from me! Between my day job, blog meetings, photo shoots and planning future content…it was a busy was a busy month!!

Happy Monday, everyone!

Shop my look : leopard headband , classic sneaker, pink trousers, pink blazer, leopard blouse.

Weekends are a Girl’s Best Friend

January 19, 2020

I’ve heard Marilyn Monroe loved New York City. Those close to her said she loved it because she wasn’t bothered there as much as she was in Hollywood. Some have even said she could stroll through the streets of New York unnoticed. If I could spend a day with her, those are all questions I would ask. What’s your favorite city and why? Is it true you could occasionally go unnoticed? And at some point, after getting to know the real Marilyn, I’d hope she would ask me a question. “Do you want to see me become her?” Her being Marilyn. Apparently Marilyn could turn the Marilyn Monroe persona on and off like magic AND if that’s not talent, I don’t know what is!

Marilyn wasn’t the dumb blonde she portrayed on screen, she was always trying to better herself personally and professionally. Channeling my inner Marilyn has not only given me more confidence in front of the camera but in my daily life as well. I’m constantly asking myself “what would Marilyn do?” or “how would Marilyn handle this situation?”.

It’s important to remember Norma Jeane didn’t become Marilyn overnight, it took years of practice. So if there’s something you want, keep working for it. And with that, I wish you a wonderful weekend!

Forever Inspired By Marilyn

January 15, 2020

If you guessed this look was inspired by the showgirl costume Marilyn Monroe wore, while playing Lorelei Lee, in the 1953 film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes…You were right!! I love all Marilyn movies but Gentlemen Prefer Blondes has to be my favorite. It’s so iconic and I love the dynamic between Marilyn and brunette beauty Jane Russell.

My love for Marilyn Monroe began 20+ years ago. I saw her smiling face in a photograph and knew instantly I had to learn everything I could about her life. What I didn’t know then, was that 20+ years later I’d still be sorting through facts vs fiction and truth vs illusion.

The more I learn about Marilyn’s life and the days, weeks and months that followed August 5, 1962, the less I feel like I know. One thing I’m sure of, is there isn’t a day that goes by where I’m not inspired her compassion, perseverance, beauty, wisdom and worth ethic.

Keep The Sparkle

December 27, 2019

I can’t believe Christmas is over and NYE is next week 😭 ! I’m already trying to find ways to keep the holiday spirit and sparkle throughout the year. My New Year’s resolution may even be to try and keep the sparkle because nothing should ever dull your sparkle, right?

When it comes to holiday style, I’m LOVING sequins. If you still have a holiday party on the calendar or plans for NYE, sequins are the way to go!! They’re also a sure fire way to stay festive (and sparkly) year-round! I found this sequined set at Zara over the summer but there are so many sequined options in stores right now. Don’t believe me? I’ve had my eye on this sequined dress from H&M all season! I’m also loving this silver one, the raglan sleeves are so fun. If sequined dresses aren’t your thing, you’re in luck because there’s no shortage of sequined tops out there! This one, I love! I’m also loving this one as well! Pair a sequined top with faux leather leggings and you’re holiday party ready!

Happy holidays everyone and don’t forget to keep the sparkle.

Tis the Season for Holiday Style!

December 15, 2019

The holiday season is my absolute favorite for fashion. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved the glitz and glam that goes along with this time of year.

Each year I look forward to adding a few new pieces to my holiday wardrobe and let me tell you, this year was no exception! H&M had so many festive pieces in stock when I stopped by before Thanksgiving I almost purchased them all (actually I’m pretty sure I did purchase them all) 😂.

Lastly, to make it easy on all of us, I’ve linked all of theses pieces on the LIKEtoKNOW.it app here !!

Stay festive, everyone!

Fall 2019 Instagram Roundup

December 5, 2019

First off, I’m sorry for being MIA on the blog for almost a month. I took some time off from publishing to spend time with family and right around that time, my dog was diagnosed with a malignant tumor. She had surgery this past Friday though and is currently on the road to recovery. I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for a clean bill of health and giving her lots of extra love in the meantime. Sorry for bringing down the vibe, but I thought I would give you all a little life update before diving in to the post.

Now, shall we? Guys, how is it December already?! With the first day of winter right around the corner, I thought it would fun to round up some of my favorite fall looks solely featured on my Instagram feed!

P.S. you can shop these outfits and more here!

My Fall Favorites From H&M

November 8, 2019

If there’s one store I’ve been loving this fall, it’s H&M. They have so many great basics, classic prints and timeless silhouettes in stock right now! As someone who considers themselves to be fairly selective when it comes to new clothes they buy, I have no doubt I’ll be wearing the items I’ve purchased this fall for many falls to come. I mean do suits, turtlenecks and wool blend coats ever really go out of style?? Not in my world! They’re wardrobe essentials if you ask me, especially around this time of year.

Be sure to follow me in the LIKEtoKNOW.it app or shop all of my fall favorites from H&M here!

Happy Friday, friends!

Pink Is My Happy Color

October 26, 2019

If I was a “look” I think this might be it, quirky yet chic and basically all of my Barbie dreams come true! This dress (now available in blush and black) can be styled for any season and it’s under $50!! Hold up, don’t let the price tag fool you… the quality is amazing! It definitely exceeded my expectations. I was surprised to learn it’s fully lined! I would, however, recommend steaming it before you wear it to avoid looking like a loofah though 😂.

Have a great weekend, friends!!
